Death of Mrs. Casteel

On Monday morning a message was received from Des Moines, stating that Mrs. Casteel was dead. She had been ailing for some time, and on the advice of the physicians went to Des Moines for treatment. On Wednesday an operation was performed, and the result at first seemed favorable, but she afterwards took a change for the worse and died Sunday night.

Burial services were held Tuesday from the M.E. church, the Relief Corps, the Rebeccas and the Rathbone Sisters assisting in the last sad rites.

Alice Martin was born in Madison county, Iowa, March 4, 1856, and died in Des Moines November 4, 1900. She resided in Madison county all her life. She was married to Mr. Casteel August 13, 1876, and their happy union was blessed with five children—three daughters and two sons, one of whom preceded her departure.

She united with the M.E. church under the pastorate of Rev. Todd in 1879, and she has lived a Godly and consecrated life since that time. She was also an active participant in all the works and charities of these institutions. She was a good neighbor, and a faithful and loving mother, a dutiful wife and consecrated Christian. She rests from her labors and her works do follow her.

Death of Mrs. Casteel

Sunday evening at six o’clock occurred the death of Mrs. Mart Casteel, of this city, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. The deceased had been operated on for an affliction of the liver which threatened her life, but was unable to bear up under the operation.

Mrs. Casteel was a well known and much loved member of our community and besides her family of three girls, a boy and the father, she leaves a number of very warm friends to regret her loss. The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church of which she was a member, the services being conducted by Rev. English.

Mrs. Casteel was a member of the Rebekahs, Rathbone Sisters and the W.R.C. and these orders attended the funeral in a body to pay the last rights to the remains of their sister who had always been an active and earnest worker in these benevolent and charitable institutions.
