MARY JANE DELONG

Mary Jane Hartman Delong was born June 22, 1841 and passed away April 14th, 1913, at her home in Des Moines.

She was married to F. L. Delong, on Dec. 3, 1854. To this union was born eight children, two of whom have passed on to the good world. Her husband preceded her in death twenty one years ago. Those left to mourn are Mrs. Bert Close, Harry, Fred, Frank and Will Delong of Des Moines and Lee of Portland, Oregon; one brother and three sisters survive: they are James of Lorimor, Amanda Caskey and Emma Hartman of Truro and Lucy Franks of Atlantic and a host of grandchildren.

She was a member of the Rebecca lodge and enjoyed its fellowship. She was a member of the Christian church for forty five years, and was true to its faith and died in the triumph of the living God.

Most of her life was spent in Madison and Polk counties. Two years ago, she had a stroke of paralysis, from which she never recovered, and during all of those weary months of suffering, she had been helpless, but the undying love of her daughter, Mrs. Close, and son, Harry, who have tenderly cared for her day and night, never leaving her bedside, have been vigilant and watchful, hopeful and prayerful.

The funeral was preached by Rev. F. W. Mutchler, pastor of the Grant Park Christian church, Des Moines. Interment was in the Hartman cemetery at Truro.
