DWAINE A. KOCH, Van Meter

Dwaine A. Koch, 83, died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation Center in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church, near Van Meter. Visitation was held Monday, July 21, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. Burial was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be sent to the family at ochiltree.com.

Dwaine Alfred Koch was born June 5, 1925, in Madison County near DeSoto, the son of Alfred and Nora (Lienemann) Koch. He was a 1943 graduate of DeSoto High School. On Feb. 12, 1950, he married Irene Rehbein at the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Dwaine was a farmer his whole life, beginning his career working with his father right out of high school. He also was involved with Koch Construction — helping his brother with tiling, terracing and pond building on many farms in the community. Most recently, Dwaine worked at Howell Tree Farm where he would entertain customers by driving families around the farm and out to the pumpkin patches.

Dwaine was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as an elder and trustee. He also was on the five-member Madison County Board of Adjustment and served on the Jefferson Township Election Board. Dwaine loved to work and enjoying being a farmer, and many mornings he could be found at the Heartland Coop at Booneville enjoying a cup of coffee.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Koch, and his three children, Michael (Cindy) Koch, Linda Kamm and Kendall Koch, all of Van Meter; a sister, Frances Roberg of Afton; a brother, James (Margaret) Koch of Van Meter; six grandchildren — Carla (David) Stitt, Melissa (Mike) Kamm, Melinda Kamm, Kellie Kamm, Sarah Koch and Jacob Koch; and two great-grandchildren, Devin Stitt and Michael Sorter.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
