MRS. MARY BENSON DIED HERE SATURDAY

Funeral Services Held on Monday, Burial in Local Cemetery

Mrs. Mary Benson, a resident of Winterset for more than 65 years, died here Saturday, Feb. 12, about two months after having received a fractured hip.

She would have been 85 years of age this Friday.

Mrs. Benson was born Feb. 18, 1870, at Rock Creek, Ia. She was the former Mary Louise Martens, daughter of Franklin and Julia Martens. She came to this community as a young woman and was married here to Samuel L. Benson on Oct. 23, 1889.

Their married life was spent in Winterset. Eight children were born to them, two dying in infancy, and one son, Ralph Benson, dying in 1936. The husband and father died in 1924.

Mrs. Benson leaves four daughters, Mrs. Mabel Wheaton of Des Moines, Mrs. T. L. Bedwell of Earlham, Mrs. Leta Herr of Des Moines, and Mrs. Pete Steen of Winterset; a son Raymond Benson of Macon, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Funeral services were held here Monday from the Anderson home for funerals conducted by the Rev. Leroy Bussinger, pastor of the Winterset Foursquare church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
