Funeral services for Robert Duff, pioneer of Madison county will be held this morning at the Duff home in Earlham.
Mr. Duff was 89 years of age. He came to Madison county with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Duff in the early sixties. He was one of the last of the older members of the Duff family.
Mr. Duff passed away Tuesday night. His wife preceded him in death four years ago.
He is survived by five children, Milton, Newton, Mrs. Charles Rogan and Mrs. Will Hockenberry of Madison county and Mrs. Velma Wilson of Des Moines.

Robert Duff pass away at his home here Tuesday evening. Mr. Duff had been in failing health the past few years and the past few days had been ill with pneumonia.
His daughter, Mrs. William Hockenberry and husband made their home with him and cared for him since his wife's death a few years ago.
The funeral services were Thursday morning at the home.

Robert Duff, son of James and Eleanor Duff was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, October 5, 1842 and departed this life at his home in Earlham February 2, 1932, at the age of eighty-nine years, three months and twenty-seven days.
When nine years of age he came by wagon to Madison County near Winterset where he spent the earlier part of his life in the pioneer home known as the Duff homestead.
He enlisted in the service of his country in Co. D. Fifteen Iowa Inf. on September 28, 1864 and received honorable discharge June 2, 1865.
In the year 1870 he was united in marriage to Josephine Melton. To this union were born six children, five of whom survive him, one dying in infancy.
On April 28, 1928, the wife and mother was called to the heavenly home and since that time his health has steadily failed. On Monday morning of this week it became plainly evident that very soon the call to meet his loved ones would come. Tuesday evening his soul very quietly and sweetly slipped away. He was a loving husband and father, a kind neighbor and a good citizen. Everyone who knew him was his friend. The children all loved him, than which there is no higher testimony to the worth of any man.
He leaves to mourn his loss two sons and three daughters; Newton, Milton and Myrtle Hockenberry of Earlham; Mrs. Chas Rogan of Pitzer; and Mrs. W. G. Wilson of Des Moines; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Pneumonia Ends Life of Pioneer Resident Here Who Was 89
Robert Duff, who has spent most of his eighty-nine years in or near this community, passed away Tuesday night at his home in west Earlham. Death was due to pneumonia with which Mr. Duff’s advanced age was inadequate to cope.
Mr. Duff was one of the few surviving Civil War veterans in this community, and had been active until only a few months ago. Before retiring several years ago he operated a farm in the Pitzer neighborhood. He is survived by three daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. W. G. Wilson, of Des Moines; Mrs. Chas. Rogan, Mrs. Wm. Hockenberry, N. V. Duff and C. M. Duff, of Earlham.
Funeral services were conducted at eleven o’clock this morning from the deceased’s home and burial was in Earlham Cemetery. Pallbearers and firing squad were selected from the local American Legion Post.
