Opal I. Rankin, Truro

Services for Opal Irene Rankin, 81, Truro, who died May 10 at the Des Moines General Hospital will be held Friday, May 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro. Burial will be at the Young Cemetery at Truro.

Born Aug. 25, 1906 at Wapello County, Iowa, she was the daugher of Ed and Bessie Smith Bender.

She was a member of the Truro Methodist Church. She was married June 16, 1928 to Gary B. Rankin at Creston.

She graduated from Truro High School in 1924 and was librarian at Truro since the library was opened 50 years ago. She was a member of the county historical society and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include a sister, Neva Black of St. Charles; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Nicoson of Iowa City and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother.

Opal Rankin Rites Friday

Services for Opal Irene Rankin, 81, of Truro, who died Tuesday, May 10, 1988 at Des Moines General Hospital, will be held Friday, May 13 at 11 a.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Truro. The Rev. James Nicholson and the Rev. Ann Louise Weisenfluh, both of Truro, will officiate, with interment in Young Cemetery, Truro.

Mrs. Rankin was born August 25, 1906 in Wapello County, the daughter of Ed Bender and Bessie Smith Bender. She graduated from Truro High School in 1924. She married Gary B. Rankin on June 16, 1928 at Creston.

She was a librarian at the Truro library since it started 50 years ago. She taught school until 1928. She was a member of the Madison County Historical Society, United Methodist Women and the Methodist Church at Truro.

Survivors include; sister, Neva Black of St. Charles, Iowa; niece, Carolyn Foreman and husband, Jack of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Geraldine Nicoson of Iowa City; niece, Sue Klein and nephew, Dale Nicoson; great niece, Cinda Foreman, great nephew, Jon Foreman and great niece, Sonia Foreman.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Gary, on May 8, 1975.
