June 20, 1973John Phillips Of Afton Dies
John Phillips of Afton, a former resident of Webster Township in this coounty, died this Monday, June 18 at a nursing home in Afton. He had been admitted to the nursing home last Thursday.
Mr. Phillips was 71 years of age. He had lived in Union County the last 20 years. He was born in Webster Township, the son of Tom and Nora Phillips.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. Gloria Thompson of Ottumwa, four grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Opal Crow of Winterset, Cecil Phillips of Peru, Leslie Phillips of Adel, Mrs. Ruby Carter of Pleasantville, Mrs. Mable Mitchell of Greenfield and Wallace Phillips of Pensacola, Florida.
Services were to be held this Wednesday from the funeral home in Afton with burial in Pleasantview Cemetery, southwest of Winterset.

AFTON—John G. Phillips, 71, of Lorimor, died at 1:15 a.m. Monday at the Eblen nursing home here in Afton.
The body is at the Stroud funeral home here where service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Lyle Dunham officiating and burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery north of Macksburg.
The son of Thomas C. and Nora Smith Phillips, he was born May 13, 1902, in Madison county and lived most of his life in Madison county and the area. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Harold (Gloria Marie) Thompson of Ottumwa and four grandchildren; three brothers, Cecil of Peru, Leslie of Adel and Wallace of Pensacola, Fla., and three sisters, Mrs. Opal Crow of Winterset, Mrs. Lloyd Mitchell of Greenfield and Mrs. Herbert Carter of Pleasantville. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, a sister and his parents.
