Edwin G. Phillips, Des Moines

Graveside services for Edwin G. Phillips, 96, Des Moines, who died Nov. 28 at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk, will be held on Thursday,m Dec. 1 at 11:30 a.m. at the Peru Cemetery.

Visitation will be held in Des Moines at the Southtown Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 30, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the Truro Congregational United Church of Christ on Thursday Dec. 1 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

A retired farmer in the Truro area, Mr. Phillips lived in Madison County most of his life. He was born on Nov. 29, 1892 at West Liberty, Iowa, the son of Robert and Elizabeth Windus Phillips.

He was a World War I Army veteran and a member of the Truro Church of Christ. He was married to Zelma Myers on Jan. 5, 1917 in Des Moines.

Survivors include two daughters, Lola McKee of Mesa, Ariz., and Georgia Smith of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a daughter.

EDWIN G. PHILLIPS

Edwin G. Phillips, 96, of 1828 Payton Ave. died Monday at Regency Care Center in Norwalk of complications following a stroke. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Peru Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips was born in West Liberty and lived in Des Moines since 1950, coming from Truro. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and an Army Veteran of World War I.

Surviving are two daughters, Lola McKee of Mesa, Ariz., and Georgia Smith of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Southtown Funeral Home, with additional visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Truro. Memorial contributions may be made to Regency Care Center or his church.

Truro

Truro and the surrounding community was greatly saddened to learn of the death of Edwin Phillips, who suffered a stroke on Thanksgiving Day and passed away on Monday morning, November 28 at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk. He would have been 96 years of age on November 30.

Mr. Phillips with his wife, Zelma, raised their three daughters on a farm southwest of Truro where LaVerne Neidt now lives. From the farm he moved to Des Moines where he was engaged in business, and in later years lived with his daughter, Georgia Smith. Another daughter, Lola Lyman lives in Mesa, Arizona. Preceding him in death were his wife and his oldest daughter, Theola Donner.

Visitation for Truro family and friends was on Thursday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Truro Congregational United Church of Christ, followed with graveside services at the Peru Cemetery. The family requested no flowers; memorials may be made to the Truro U.C.C. Church or to the Regency Care Center in Norwalk. The ladies of the church served noon lunch to the family and friends.
