Alta Nelson Of St. Charles Died Monday

Alta Mae Nelson, 65, of St. Charles, died Monday, November 21 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born September 12, 1912, in Chamberland, South Dakota.

Her parents were Lee and Mabel Burger St. John. She attended school in South Dakota and on January 18, 1930, was married to Lawrence D. Nelson in Chamberland. They had eleven children.

Mrs. Nelson was a housewife and lived the last 40 years in St. Charles. She was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence of St. Charles; sons, Wayne, Max and Larry of St. Charles and Gene of Des Moines; daughters, Mrs. Jeffie Cleaicuza of Atwater, California, Mrs. Shirley Ayers of St. Charles, Mrs. Lois Downard of Des Moines, Mrs. Donna Weeks of Indianola; 27 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Lilly Nelson of Bagley, Iowa; three brothers, Fred Ransford of Omaha, Nebraska, Ed Ransford of Marion, Iowa and Raymond St. John of Cave City, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter in infancy and two sons, Merle and Vernon.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 23, at 10:00 a.m. from St. Charles Christian Church with burial at the St. Charles Cemetery.
