Lee Myers, Truro

Lee Myers, 24 of Truro, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident one mile east of Truro. Funeral services were June 25 at Kale Funeral Home in Truro. Pastor Larry Low officiated the services and burial was at Hartman Cemetery in Madison County.

He was born in Clarke County on Sept. 15, 1971 to LeRoy and Dee (Folck) Myers. He had attended Murray and Interstate 35 schools and was employed as a roofer.

He was preceded in death by both grandfathers; one grandmother; and one step-father.

Surviving relatives include his parents of Truro; one sister, Michelle Myers of Des Moines; one brother, Tim Myers of New Virginia and fiancee Charity Wither; grandmother, Lillie Myers of Osceola; and two nieces.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Driver, lone passenger die

Weekend accident kills 2 area men

A one-car accident early Saturday morning near Truro claimed the lives of two area men.

Lee Myers, 24, of Truro and Shane B. McDuffey, 21, of New Virginia were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Madison County Coroner Dr. Thomas Bergstrom.

The accident occurred at 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

A Ford Ranger pickup driven by Myers was traveling eastbound on county road G68. Myers failed to negotiate the curve one mile east of Truro and went off the road, striking a utility pole. The accident killed Myers and his passenger McDuffey.

Myers was employed as a roofer. He is the son of LeRoy and Dee Myers of Truro.

McDuffey was a construction worker and an Army veteran. He is the son of Kathleen McDuffey of New Virginia.

Two killed in Saturday car accident

Gerald Leroy Myers, 24, of Truro and Shane Brice McDuffey, 21, of New Virginia died in a one-car accident at 2:34 Saturday morning about one mile east of Truro.

The Iowa State Patrol report said the 1992 Ford pickup, driven by Myers, was eastbound on Madison County road G-68, failed to negotiate a turn, went into the south ditch and struck a utility pole.

The driver was ejected from the truck. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither was wearing a seat-belt.

The Iowa State Patrol is continuing their investigation of the accident.

LEE MYERS

Gerald LeRoy “Lee” Myers, son of LeRoy and Dee Folck Myers, was born Sept. 15, 1971, at Osceola and died June 22, 1996, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Ohio township near Truro. He was 24.

He attended Murray and Interstate 35 schools and he was employed as a roofer. He lived all of his life in the Truro area.

Mr. Meyers was an avid outdoorsman. Fishing as well as spending time with his friends were his favorite pastimes. He loved his nieces, Sasha and Callie, whom he would tease and he would sing and play his guitar for them.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Gerald Myers and Bruce Folck; his grandmother Mildred Cleland and step grandfather, John Cleland.

Mr. Myers is survived by his parents, LeRoy and Dee Myers of Truro; a sister Michelle Myers of Des Moines; a brother, Tim Myers and his fiancée, Charity Winther, of New Virginia; grandmother, Lillie Myers of Osceola; two nieces, Sasha and Callie; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Services for Mr. Myers were June 25 at Kale Funeral Home in Truro with Pastor Larry Low of New Virginia conducting the service. Casket bearers were Ron Carney, Shiloh Ashby, Rick Stump, Mike Ashby, Wade Hiatt, Rick Finley. Honorary bearers were Randy Kohrs Chris Emmons, Bud Sorter, Bert Williams, Shane Huston and Nyle Isaac. Interment was in Hartman Cemetery in Madison County.
