Louise Moreland, youngest child of Isaac Benson and Hattie Williams Walker, was born September 17, 1896 in Grundy County, Illinois. She died July 20, 1988 in Transylvania County, North Carolina.

She moved with her parents to Earlham in 1915. During World War I she worked in the Engineering Extension Service in Ames, Iowa

She was married to John Moreland on October 8, 1919. They lived on a farm in Madison County for 45 years until they retired to Earlham in 1965.

In her "retirement years" during the decade of her Seventies, she sewed over 500 children's garments for Church World Service.

Widowed in 1976, she continued living in Earlham until August 1984, when she moved to the mountains of North Carolina to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Following a stroke on Thanksgiving Day, 1987, she resided in a Brevard, North Carolina nursing home until her death.

She is survived by her son Dorrence and her daughter, Dorothy Mock, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in her Earlham home Sunday, Aug. 21 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Memorial gifts may be sent to either of her two favorite peace and brotherhood organizations: Fellowship of Reconciliation, Box 271, Nyack, NY 10960 or Piney Woods School, Piney Woods, Mississippi 39148.
