Alta Ellen Miles, Winterset

Alta Ellen Miles, 105, died of congestive heart failure at Integrated Health Services in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 10 at the First Baptist Church in Winterset with Pastor Richard Lamborn officiating. Burial was at Hamblin Cemetery, Monroe Township, Madison County.

Alta Miles was born April 21, 1895 in Madison County to George Benjamin and Martha (Kingery) Berry. She married Ray Miles on Dec. 31, 1912 in Winterset. Alta, along with her husband, farmed and following his death in 1963, she provided child care for several families in Winterset. She also raised seven children besides her own, three of whom she raised from infancy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, a niece and two brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Rinard (husband Jim) of Winterset and Toni Irene Madsen (husband Brian) of Jacksonville, Ark.; a nephew, Leslie Berry (wife Gianna) of Lincoln, Neb.; a niece, Barbara Faux (husband Gene) of Winterset; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to her family.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.

Alta Miles, Winterset

Alta Ellen Miles, 105, of Winterset died of a heart ailment Wednesday at IHS Nursing Home there.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Winterset, with burial at Hamblin Cemetery in Madison County.

Mrs. Miles was born in Madison County and had lived in Winterset all her life. She had been a farmer.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Rinard of Winterset and Toni Madsen of Jacksonville, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
