Jay Leland Mease, Winterset

Funeral services for Jay Leland Mease, 95, formerly of Truro, were held Sat. Sept. 28 at the United Methodist Church, Truro, with the Rev.Tapiwa Mucherera officiating. Mr. Mease died September 24 at Bethesda Care Center, Winterset, where he was a resident.

He was born November 2, 1895 in Truro to Martin C. and Roberta (Clifton) Mease and attended Madison County schools, graduating from Truro High School in 1911. He married Elsie Pauline Hudson February 27, 1928 in Chillicothe, Mo. He was a farmer, honor mascot for Interstate 35's baseball team and a World War I veteran. He was a member of the VFW in Winterset, Scottish Rite Temple, United Methodist Church at Truro, U and I Sunday School class and a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge.

Jay Leland Mease was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 1987 and four brothers.

Surviving are three daughters, Lois Jean Query of Lexington, N.C., Fran Bobzin and husband Darrell of West Des Moines, and Irene Clutter and husband, Steve of Kinston, N.C.; three sons, Paul L. of El Cajon, Calif., Robert D. and wife, Hazel, of San Marcos, Calif., and Cecil W. and wife Shirley of Des Moines; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Hartman Cemetery, Madison County.

Services held Saturday for Jay L. Mease, 95

Services were Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Truro for former Truro resident, Jay Leland Mease, 95, who died Sept. 24, 1991, at the Bethesda Care Center in Winterset.

The Rev. Tapiwa Mucherera officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in Hartman Cemetery in Madison County with Kale Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mease, the son of Martin C. and Roberta Clifton Mease, was born Nov. 2, 1895, at Truro. He attended Madison County schools and graduated from Truro High School in 1911. He married Elsie Pauline Hudson on Feb. 27, 1928, at Chillicothe, Mo. The couple were the parents of six children.

A farmer, Mr. Mease was an honor mascot for Interstate 35 baseball team. He was a World War I veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A member of the United Methodist Church at Truro. Mr. Mease was also a member of the U & I Sunday School Class, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite Temple.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pauline, in 1987; and four brothers, Orrin, Frank, Lewis and Galen.

Mr. Mease is survived by three daughters, Lois Jean Query of Lexington, N. C., Fran Bobzin and her husband, Darrell of West Des Moines and Irene Clutter and her husband, Steve, of Kinston, N. C.; three sons, Paul L. Mease of El Cajon, Calif., Robert D. Mease and his wife, Hazel, of San Marcos, Calif. and Cecil W. Mease and his wife, Shirley, of Des Moines; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
