ELDERLY COUPLE DIED LAST WEEK

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Morey Succumb Within Three Days of Each Other

Mr. and Mrs. Francis E. Morey, who for the past 10 years had made their home near Macksburg, both died during the past week. Mr. Morey passed on Tuesday evening of last week at Osceola, and three days later, last Friday morning, his wife succumbed at a nursing home in Winterset.

Mr. Morey was 75 years old at the time of his death. He was a native of Cameron, in Warren county, Ill., where he was born on July 8, 1867, the son of Joseph and Sarah Morey. He was reared in that community and there he was married to Miss Belle Berg on Jan. 2, 1894.

Mrs. Morey was the former Nina Belle Berg, daughter of Adam and Mary Jane Berg, and was born at Mr. Erie, in Wayne county, Ill., on Oct. 8, 1871. She was 71 years old at the time of her death. As a young woman she moved to Cameron, Ill, where she met and was married to Francis E. Morey.

Mr. and Mrs. Morey left Illinois in 1900 and located near Lorimor. After living there for some time, they moved to Minnesota for nine years. Returning to Iowa, they settled on a farm two miles east of Macksburg which had been their home for the past 10 years.

Mr. Morey had united with the Christian church in Illinois as a young man, and Mrs. Morey had joined the Methodist church near her home as a girl. After moving to Madison county, they transferred to the Macksburg Methodist church.

The couple were the parents of five children. They are: Ralph Morey of Waterloo, Mrs. Lillian Ross of Grocerville, Minn., Mrs. Lela Van Buren of White Rock, S. Dak., and Frederick and Cloyd Morey, both of Macksburg. Mr. Morey also leaves a brother, George Morey of Garnett, Kan.

Funeral services for Mr. Morey were held last Friday and for Mrs. Morey they were held on Sunday. Both services were held from the Macksburg Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. Merrill Summerbell of Anita, assisted by the Rev. J. E. Englund of Macksburg. They were buried in the Moon cemetery.
