NATHAN C. McDOLE

Nathan C. McDole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad McDole, was born in Indiana, May 8, 1842, and died at his home in Winterset, April 1, 1931, aged 88 years, 10 months and 23 days.

Mr. McDole came to Iowa with his parents in 1848 and first resided on a farm near Hartford, Iowa. He lived there until August 11, 1862, when he enlisted with Co. B, 34th Iowa volunteers. He fought through many of the important engagements of the Civil war and was mustered out in Co. C in September of 1865.

In 1869 Mr. McDole united with the Methodist church at Motor, Iowa.

He was married to Martha A. Smith November 1, 1866, and to this union was born 10 children, eight of whom are still living. They are Mrs. John Marley, Mrs. Joe McKibban and Mrs. Rex Olmstead of Winterset; Mrs. J. E. Duff of Des Moines; James McDole, Akron, O.; and Will, Phoebe and Josephine McDole, at home. Thomas and Dora preceded him in death. Those who survive in addition to the children are his wife and seven grandchildren. Mr. McDole, himself, was the last of a family of seven children.

He was a member of the Pitzer Post, G. A. R. of Winterset, and the Odd Fellows lodge at Indianola.

Mr. McDole was a man, who, in spite of advancing age and physical infirmities, kept abreast of the times in which he lived and was alive to present day interests. He was a man of patient and genial disposition and will be greatly missed from the home circle and from the friends who knew and loved him.

The Rev. John T. Hall, pastor of the Baptist church, conducted the funeral services at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home Friday afternoon, April 3, at 2:30 and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
