Tom (T.J.) Hartfield, 88, rural Prole who died Jan. 19 at the Care Center North in Winterset, were held at Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Morrow officiating. Full military graveside services were held at the Mt. Pelier Cemetery.

Born in Madison County on Nov. 29, 1896, he was the son of George and Mary Jane McMichael Hartfield. He was a retired farmer and plumber, a veteran of World War I and a lifetime resident. Mr. Hartfield was a member of the Methodist Church, the American Legion post 184, and the World War I Post Barracks No. Ia. 1339.

On Sept. 18, 1919, he was married to Pearle E. Taylor in Madison County. Survivors include a son, Lawrence of Winterset; a daughter, Norma Wilkinson of Ankeny; and six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a great grandson, a brother and four sisters.
