Mrs. William B. Landis, a life-long resident of Madison county, died last Thursday night at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines after a week's illness. Death was due to a heart ailment. She was 73 years of age.

Mrs. Landis was the elder daughter of Mary Ann Bilderback and Benjamin James, and was born Feb. 19, 1871, on the farm known as the James homestead, four miles southeast of Winterset in Scott township. Her mother died when she was six years old, and her father in 1928.

On Jan. 27, 1899, she was married to William B. Landis. They made their home on what is known as the Isaac Landis homestead near Peru, and lived there continuously until 1919, when they bought the Hiatt homestead north of Peru in Scott township. This was the site of the original famous Delicious apple tree.

She was a member of the Christian church at Peru.

Mr. and Mrs. Landis were the parents of five children. the eldest, Bird W. Landis, died in 1918. She is survived by her husband; the four children, Herbert H. Landis of Des Moines, Frank J. Landis of Lorimor, Mrs. June M. Croft of Des Moines, and Mrs. Pansie B. Ruth of Winterset. She also leaves seven grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ona M. Palmer of Amherst, Texas and a half-brother, Thomas James of Kansas City, Mo.

Funeral services were held here Sunday from Andersons Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Mr. Thompson of Lorimor. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

HOLD SERVICES FOR MRS. ANNA LANDIS

Mrs. Anna N. Landis of near Winterset, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines on Thursday, April 27. Mrs. Landis was 73 years old, and has lived her entire life in Madison county.

Funeral services were held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Winterset on Sunday afternoon, April 30, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Thompson of Lorimor conducted the service and burial was in the Peru Cemetery.

Anna Naomi Landis, daughter of Mary Ann and Benjamin James, was born February 19, 1871, in Scott township. On January 7, 1889 she was married to William B. Landis of Scott township. To them were born five children. One son, Bird William Landis, died in 1918.

She and her husband joined the Christian church at Peru early in their married life.

She is survived by her husband, William B. Landis; two sons, Herbert H. Landis of Des Moines and Frank J. Landis of Lorimor; two daughters, June M. Croft of Des Moines, and Pansie B. Ruth of Winterset; a half-brother, Thomas James of Kansas City; one sister, Mrs. Oma M. Palmer of Amherst, Texas; six grandsons and one granddaughter.

Mrs. Anna Landis Burial Set at Peru

Mrs. Anna James Landis, 72, of Peru, Ia., died Thursday at Iowa Methodist hospital of a heart attack. Funeral services will be in Winterset, Ia., with burial in Peru. Mrs. Landis’s parents were among the first settlers in Madison county.

She is survived by her husband, William B. Landis; two sons, Frank Landis, Lorimor, Ia.; and Herbert Landis, Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. George A. Croft, Des Moines, and Mrs. W. H. Ruth, Winterset; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ona Palmer, Amherst, Tex.
