Death of Mrs. Tom Gordon

Mrs. Tom Gordon died at the Winterset hospital Wednesday morning, March 2 at 1 o’clock. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. Mrs. Gordon is survived by her husband and two children, Junior and Donna Gale, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hayden of Peru and a sister, Mrs. Loy DeLong of Hereford, Colorado, who is on her way here. A little daughter who was born Tuesday afternoon, preceded her mother in death.

Mrs. Gordon was 27 years of age. She attended the Winterset schools graduating from the high school here. She taught in the country schools for a time and after attending the Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls taught in the Ottumwa schools. About six years ago she was married to Tom Gordon and since that time they have made their home in and around Winterset.

She was brought to the Winterset hospital about ten days ago and an operation was performed. It was thought that she was progressing nicely when complications developed causing her death.

Mortuary - Mable Hayden Gordon

Mable Hayden Gordon, youngest daughter of Charlie and Bell Hayden was born near Truro, Iowa, December 21, 1904, and died March 3rd, 1932 at the Winterset hospital. She is survived by her husband and two chiildren, Junior, aged 4 years and Donna Gail, age 2 years.

Her father and mother and one sister, Mrs. Loy DeLong of Hereford, Colorado, also survive; two sister and one brother preceded her in death.

Mrs. Gordon attended the Peru schools, graduating with the class of 1920 and then attended school in Winterset, graduating with the class of 1922. She taught in the county schools for a time and after attending the Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls taught in the Ottumwa and Peru schools.

In her early girlhood she united with the Methodist church at Peru and has remained a faithful member ever since.

On February 6, 1926, she was married to Thomas Gordon and since that time they have made their home in and around Winterset.

On Monday, February 22, she suffered an attack of acute appendicitis and was brought to the Winterset hospital where she was operated on that night. It was thought she was progressing nicely and on Tuesday, March 2nd a baby daughter was born which lived only a short time. It was thought that she was progressing nicely when complications developed and at 2 o'clock she passed away.

Coordinator's note: An obituary appeared in The Winterset News that was almost word-for-word identical to the 2nd obituary posted here except it included the following funeral information -

"The rev. A. P. Keast conducted services Friday morning, march 4 at Ramsey-Richards funeral home. The rev. Sands was in charge of the burial service at the Peru cemetery".
