Death of James H. Cox

St. Charles Special, July 7th –

The funeral of James H. Cox was held last Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church, the Rev. A. E. George now of Mitchellville, but a former pastor here preaching the sermon to a large audience.

He is survived by nine children, two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Montgomery of Carpenter, Wyoming; and Mrs. Jessie McDaniel of Esmond, North Dakota, were unable to come. The other children V. E. Cox and wife of Sioux City, M. A. Cox of Morgan, Minnesota; James F. Cox of Oakes, North Dakota; Mrs. Rebecca Leggett and family of Des Moines, John Cox and family of Paton, E. E. Cox and wife of this place and Mrs. Emma Ruther and family of near Truro were all in attendance at the funeral.

Mr. Cox had lived in and around St. Charles for many years and by his genial disposition and his ability to always see the silver linings to the clouds that passed over him, made many friends. His wife passed away eleven years ago and he has since made his home with his son, Ernest, and wife.

Besides his children he is survived by seventeen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Emma Reed of Indianola the only one left of the family.

Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Reed and Mrs. Emma Reed of Indianola, Mrs. Etta Reeves and daughters Carol and Rena of Swan, Mrs. Mattie Hunter and daughter Jessie of Pleasantville, Emory Travis and family, Mr. and Mrs. Quick of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Cox from near Earlham and Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Minard of Davenport, Nebraska.
