W. Paul Armstrong Was 71 Years of Age at His Death

William Paul Armstrong was a native of Stuart where he was born Nov. 3, 1893, a son of John R. and Christina Vaudt Armstrong. His life was spent in farming in Madison county. He had lived near DeSoto and Van Meter, and for many years in Penn township. He was 71 years of age at his death.

He was married June 13, 1917, to Dene McKibben of Earlham who survives him. He also leaves three sons, Mervyn Armstrong of Earlham, Max Armstrong of Cimarron, Kan., and Gerald Armstrong of Winterset; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Boggs of Des Moines and Mrs. Frank Hobbs of Washington state, and 13 grandchildren.

He also leaves a brother, Albert Armstrong of Adel and two sisters, Mrs. H. R. Jensen of DeSoto and Mrs. Lucille Lewis of DeSoto.

Funeral services were held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Penn Center Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Latta. Burial was to be made in the Penn Center cemetery.

Armstrong Bros. Killed in North Ia.

DEXTER: Paul Armstrong, and a brother, John Armstrong of Van Meter, were killed Saturday morning in a car accident near Emmetsburg. The Paul Armstrong family lived in the Penn Center community for 15 years.

The brothers, widely known in this area, left Van Meter on a pheasant hunting trip about 4:30 a.m. and planned to return late Saturday night. The accident occurred on fog-shrouded Highway 18, about one mile west of Emmetsburg.

Officials stated that the Armstrong car had started to pass two empty school buses when they collided head-on with a car driven by Kenneth Paulson, 34, of Estherville. Paulson was hospitalized with lacerations and shock.

Services for John were Tuesday afternoon at Van Meter and services for Paul were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Penn Center Methodist church. Interment was at the Penn Center cemetery.

William Paul Armstrong, third son of John Riley and Christina Armstrong, was born November 3, 1900, at Stuart, and passed away Nov. 7, 1964, in an automobile accident near Emmetsburg which also claimed the life of his brother, John.

He spent his early childhood in Stuart, and moved with his parents to the Fairview and Van Meter area.

He was married to Dene McKibben on June 13, 1917, and to them were born five children. They began farming in the Earlham community, where they spent their entire lifetime.

Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, he is survived by his wife and five children: Mervyn R. Armstrong of Earlham; Max Armstrong of Cimarron, Kan., Louise (Mrs. Fred Boggs) of Des Moines; Gerald Armstrong of the Horton Nursing Home, Winterset; Leone (Mrs. Frank Hobbs) of Kennewick, Wash.; two sisters: Mrs. Nora Jensen and Mrs. Lucille Lewis of DeSoto; one brother, Albert Armstrong of Adel; and by thirteen grandchildren, many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Final rites were held Nov. 11th at the Penn Center church, with interment in the Penn Center Cemetery, with the Rev. Ernest Baiotto and the Rev. John Latta officiating.

He was a loving husband and father, a good neighbor, and a friend to all who knew him, and will be greatly missed in the community.
