Services for Boyd Lester Armstrong, 77, Osceola, who died April 30 at home, were held Tuesday, May 3 at the Kale Funeral Home with the Rev. James Patrick of Indianola officiating. Burial was at the St. Charles Cemetery.

He was born Mar. 3, 1906 in Warren County, the son of Albert and Venor Reither Armstrong. He attended St. Charles schools and graduated in 1924. On Feb. 22, 1930 he married Leta Reynolds in Des Moines. He moved to Osceola in 1982 and was a member of the First Christian Church and the Odd Fellows.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, and Jesse Armstrong and wife Helen of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two sisters.

Boyd Armstrong Dies April 30

Boyd Lester Armstrong, 77 of Osceola died in his home Saturday, April 30, 1983. Services were held Tuesday, May 3, at the Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the Pastor James Patrick of Indianola officiating at the 2 p.m. rites. Interment was in the St. Charles Cemetery in St. Charles.

Boyd Lester Armstrong was born March 3, 1906 in Warren County near St. Charles to Albert Armstrong and Venora Reither Armstrong. He attended St. Charles schools, graduating in 1924. On February 22, 1930 he married Leta Reynolds in Des Moines. He was a member of the Odd Fellows organization and the First Christian Church in Osceola.

Surviving relatives include his wife Leta of Osceola, brother, Jesse Armstrong and wife, Helen of St. Charles, nephew, Claude Faust of Des Moines, nephew, Rex Armstrong of Indianola, niece, Kay Armstrong Boden of Creston, niece Leota Tuttle of Leon, and niece Betty Lou Walker of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Boyd L. Armstrong

Boyd L. Armstrong, life-long resident of Warren and Clarke counties, was born March 3, 1906, the son of Albert and Nora Reither Armstrong, and died at his home in Osceola April 30, 1983. He lived in the Broadhorn Community southeast of St. Charles, Iowa where he attended elementary school. After graduation from the St. Charles High School in 1926, he farmed with his father until 1929, when he accepted a position with Clarke County on road maintenance and later as shop mechanic for a period of 13 years.

On February 22, 1930 he was united in marriage to Leta Reynolds, making their home in Osceola. In 1942, he was employed by International Harvester of Des Moines until he served in the Armed Forces at Fort Crook, Nebraska for a two year period, resuming his job in 1945, at which time he and Leta made their home in Des Moines.

In 1947 they purchased and moved to a farm Southeast of St. Charles, near the Armstrong family farm where he had spent his boyhood. Boyd was a kind, honest man, with a love of the land. He took great pride in working with nature to beautify his surroundings, and enjoyed his home greatly.

Having retired the Armstrongs moved to 310 E. Washington in Osceola in November 1982.

He was an active member in the Osceola and St. Charles Christian Churches and participated in services at Broadhorn Church, while living nearby.

Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters, Lesta Foust and Carrie Sayles; and brother Clyde Armstrong.

Surviving relatives are his wife Leta of Osceola, brother, Jessie Armstrong and wife, Helen of St. Charles, nephews Claude Faust of Des Moines, and Rex Armstrong and wife, Carma of Indianola, and nieces, Leota Tuttle and husband, Wendell of Leon and Betty Lou Walker and husband, Bill of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Services were held Tuesday, May 3, at the Kale Funeral Home with Pastor James Patrick of Indianola officiating. Interment was in the St. Charles Cemetery.
