CHET WHEELER Stricken Fatally

W. C. "Chet" Wheeler of Winterset, a widely known resident of this community since 1947, was stricken with a fatal heart attack at his home here Wednesday evening, June 29, 1966. He had been in apparent good health, and his death came as a shock to the entire community.

Mr. Wheeler was 54 years of age. He had operated the "Mail-Me-Monday" accounting service in Winterset since coming here from Dallas, Texas in 1947.

He was a native of Pleasanton, Ia., where he was born Aug. 1, 1911, a son of Charles and Helen Lorey Wheeler. His early life was spent in Des Moines, where he graduated from North high school and the American Institute of Business.

He was married in Des Moines on June 3, 1937, to Margaret Peterson, who survives him.

Mr. Wheeler served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II, and was active in the Green-Rogers post of the American Legion here. He was a past president of the Winterset Lions club, and a member of the Winterset Community school board at the time of his death.

He was a member of the First Methodist church of Winterset.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Larry LeCocq of Ames, and Sue Wheeler, at home. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Helen L. Wheeler of Winterset; a grandson, Todd LeCocq; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Fairless of Sunnyside, Calif., and Mrs. Virginia Fairall of Cincinnatti, O.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the First Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E. K. Burham. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery, with military ritual by Green-Rogers post of the American Legion.
