Clyde Umsted, Truro

Clyde LeValley Umsted, 91, of Truro died of cancer, December 26, 1993 in his home in Truro. Funeral services are today Wed. Dec. 29, 1993 at 11 a.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Truro with the Terri Elder of Truro officiating. Burial will be at the Young Cemetery in Truro.

He was born November 6, 1902 in Dayton to William I. and Estella (LeValley) Umsted. He married Lois Orwain on April 7, 1927 in Ft. Dodge. He was a retired farmer and member of the Model Lodge 315 and the O.E.S. Model Chapter, both in St. Charles. He was a past member of the Za Ga Zig Shrine Temple Consistory in Des Moines. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Truro.

He was preceded in death by one son; five brothers and three sisters.

Surviving relatives include his wife of Truro; four daughters, Marilyn Miller and husband Norman of West Des Moines, Alice Cole of Des Moines, Jane McCarty and Dennis of Liberty, Mo., Joan Starr and husband Don of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Truro Methodist Church After School program.

CLYDE LE VALLEY UMSTED

Clyde LeValley Umsted, son of William I. and Stella LeValley Umsted, was born Nov. 6, 1902, in Dayton and died at his home in Truro on Dec. 26, 1993. He was 91.

He received his education in the Dayton Schools and married Lois Orwan on April 7, 1927 at Fort Dodge. The couple became the parents of five children.

Mr. and Mrs. Umsted moved to the Truro community in 1941 and they were longtime members of the farming community. They retired and moved to Truro in 1976.

Mr. Umsted was a 50-year member of Model Lodge No. 315 A.F. & A.M. in St. Charles as well as a Model Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in St. Charles. He was member of the United Methodist Church at Truro and a past member of the ZaGaZig Shrine Temple in Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Donald and five brothers and three sisters.

Surviving Mr. Umsted are his wife, Lois Umsted of Truro; daughters, Marilyn Miller and her husband, Norman Miller of West Des Moines, Alice Cole of Des Moines, Jane McCarty and her husband, Dennis McCarty of Liberty, Mo.; daughter Joan Starr and her husband Donald Starr of Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Steve Miller of Altoona, Diane Tough of West Des Moines, Brett Cole of Monroe, Vickie O’Brien of Des Moines, Michael Gillispie of Florida, Cindy Fugate of Earlham, and Adam McCarty of Des Moines, 11 great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro Dec. 29. The Rev. Terri Elder of Truro officiated. Masonic services were conducted by the Model Lodge Number 315 A.F. & A.M., St. Charles. Music was provided by Patty Stephens who sang How Great Thou Art and Just a Closer Walk With Thee. She was accompanied by Doris Johnson, organist. Burial was in the Young Cemetery, Truro, with the following casket bearers: Jim Tough, Brett Cole, David O’Brien, Adam McCarty, Mike Fugate, and Larry Stephens.

DEATHS
