Joseph Edgar Bek, 86, of Winterset died of a heart ailment Jan. 20, 2000, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating.

Joseph Bek was born Aug. 20, 1913, in Cass County to Christian and Pearl Elizabeth (Erickson) Bek. He married Mildred Holmes on Feb. 14, 1934, in Madison County. A retired farmer and carpenter, he also was employed by the U.S. government sealing grain storage bins. He had lived in Winterset for five years, having previously resided in Boone County. Joseph was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, a past 4-H president and past rural school director.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Dr. Ted D. Bek (wife Sunnl) of Fairfield Bay, Ark; and Craig. C. Bek (wife Dawn) of De Pere, Wis.; a sister, Maxine Bruett of Winterset; four grandsons; two stepgrandsons; three great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangemants were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
