LEWIS E. MORRIS, Earlham

Lewis E. Morris, 87, died of a heart attack Dec. 18, 2001, at his rural Earlham home.

Funeral seervices were held Friday, Dec. 21, at the First Presbyterian Church in Earlham with the Rev. Dr. Ray Martin officiating. Burial was at Waukee Cemetery.

Lewis Morris was born Feb. 22, 1914, to Lewis and Marian (Stevenson) Morris of rural Grimes. He attended country schools in the Grimes area. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1938 with a major in animal husbandry and a minor in economics and government. On December 31, 1939, he was married to Rosalie Ralston, daughter of David and Bessie Kerr Ralston. He returned to farming after graduation. First, working as a hired man, then purchasing his present farm in 1950. Lewis was a member of the Iowa Forage and Grassland Council, Living History Farms, Madison County Farm Bureau, AARP and the Earlham Presbyterian Church, where he held many local as well as state offices. He also was active with 4-H.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, two sisters and a daughter.

He is survived by two sons, David Morris (wife Sue) of Burbank, Calif., and Brian Morris (wife Fran) of Adel; two daughters, Helen Summy (husband Terry) of Kansas City, Mo., and Martha Morris of Earlham; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter and Earlham.
