Mrs. Mary Drake, wife of the late William M. Drake, well known Madison county farmer, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. D. Clausen on Tuesday of last week. She had been in failing health for several years and succumbed to pneumonia after a week's illness. She was 78 years old.
Mrs. Drake was born August 8, 1858, at Minot, Maine, the daughter of William and Maria Morse. At the age of 9 years she moved with her family to Geneseo, Illinois. In 1868, they came to Iowa, settling in Lincoln township of Adair county, and five years later moving to Stuart, where she attended school.
After completing her education she taught several years in the Madison and Adair county schools. On July 9, 1881, she was married to William M. Drake of Webster township. They were the parents of four children, all of whom are living. Her husband died three years ago.
Mrs. Drake was a member of the Methodist church at Webster.
She leaves the four children, Nina Hart and Warren Drake of near Winterset, Cora Clausen and Edgar Drake of near Dexter; 12 grandchildren, one great grandchild and a sister, Mrs. Wesley Redhead of Des Moines.
Funeral services were held last Friday from the Webster Methodist church in charge of the Rev. A. R. Weed, former pastor there. Burial was made in the Roberts cemetery.
