Dave Simpson, 76, Creston, died of respiratory failure Sept. 28, 1997, at Greater Community Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Powers Funeral Home. Dr. Robert L. Pickerell, pastor of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Moon Cemetery at Macksburg with military rites by VFW Theodore J. Martens Post No. 1797.
Mr. Simpson was born March 24, 1921 in Macksburg to Omer Earl and Lena Mae (Campbell) Simpson. He attended country schools in the Macksburg area. On Jan. 27, 1950, he married Delores M. Downing at Blue Earth, Minn.
After his discharge from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1945, he worked in Des Moines for Rock Island as a diesel mechanic, and then worked at Purolator and Franklin Standard in Creston. Later he owned and operated Simpson Construction for many years, retiring in the late 1980's. He lived in Des Moines until moving to Maxwell around 1963 and then moved to Creston in 1966. He was a member of the Sheriff's Posse and was a musician for dances at the Skyline Square Dance Club. He was a World War II veteran.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (husband Rod) Williamson and Darcy Madison of Creston; two sisters, Edna Barnes of Creston and his twin Fern (husband Dwight) Mohr of Elkhart; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores on Oct. 26, 1995; a brother, Earl Simpson; and a sister Marie in childhood.
