Esta May Bishop, 99, Winterset died Dec. 21, 2004 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Friday Dec 24 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Bobb Barrick officiating. Burial was at Union Chapel Cemetery, South Township, Madison County.

Esta Bishop was born March 10, 1905 in Veak, Okla. to Alfred and Eula May (Cook) Morris. She moved to Des Moines at the age of 6. On July 29, 1926, she married Paul W. Bishop in Avon. During their marriage, they lived in Chicago, St. Louis and Pico Rivera, Calif. She moved to Winterset following her retirement in 1966. Esta had been a receptionist for the United States Army Corps of Engineers for many years. She also had worked as a telephone operator. She was a member of the VFW and American Legion auxiliaries, American Association of Retired Persons, Farmers and Merchants State Bank Heritage Club and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset where she was involved with choir, Sunday school, Bible study and United Methodist Women. She had been a longtime volunteer at the Multi-Purpose Center in Winterset and played with the Madison County Hillbilly Band. Many other organizations also benefited from her volunteering, including the hospital, nursing homes, Congregate Meal Site, Democratic Party and Apple Tree players. She was the 1984 recipient of the Governor's Volunteer Award.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Beverly Sanderson; a brother, Alfred Lee Morris, two sisters, Idona Smith and Vida Parmenter; a granddaughter, Barbara Ann Lincoln; and a grandson, David William Bishop.

She is survived by one son, Bill Bishop of Goldsboro, N.C.; one daughter Betty Lincoln of Winterset; and 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.
