Wednesday, October 22, 1969HOMER TILTON Died Sunday
Homer G. Tilton of Winterset, one of this community's outstanding citizens over a long period of years, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1969, after an extended period of failing health. He was 88 years of age.
Mr. Tilton engaged in farming and was in the realty and actioneering business in Winterset. He was active in community service for many years, serving several terms on the Madison county board of supervisors. He also served as mayor of Winterset and member of the city council. He was widely known as an auctioneer, and cried his last sale on his eighty-fifth birthday.
Mr. Tilton was born in this county Nov. 10, 1880, a son of Thomas W. and Phoebe McClain Tilton. He was married at Winterset on Dec. 24, 1913, to Blanche Martin. Their only child, Willis Theodore, died in infancy.
Mr. Tilton is survived by his wife, a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Perkins of Indianola, and thirteen nieces and nephews. Four brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home here, conducted by the Rev. E. K. Burham, pastor of the First United Methodist church of Winterset, and by the Rev. Walter A. Samp. Burial was to be made in the Winterset Cemetery.
