MARY MEYER Dies at 81

Mary M. Meyer, daughter of Alanson and Eva Gorrell Chase, was born in Douglas township of Madison County on Jan. 25, 1893, and died at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa on February 9, 1974 at the age of 81 years.

She was educated in the rural schools of Douglas township and was united in marriage to Clarence E. Meyer on March 18, 1914 at her parents home. They farmed in Jefferson township until 1936, when they moved to Wintersset, and Mr. Meyer founded Meyer Hybrids. After the death of her husband in 1953, she continued to live in Winterset until 1970 when she moved to Hampton.
They were the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Levi Preston of Hampton, and Mrs. Doris Lawson of Aurora, Illinois.

She is survived by her two daughters, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Grace Cross and Mrs. Glenn Shaw of Winterset and Mrs. Ella Kennedy of Boise, Idaho, one brother Harold Chase of Modesto, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and two brothers.

She was active for many years in the Methodist Church having been a member at Fairview, north of Winterset, at the United Methodist Church of Winterset and in later years at the United Methodist Church of Hampton.

Funeral services were held at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Hampton at 7:30 p.m., February 11th, and at the United Methodist Church in Winterset at 1:30 p.m. on February 12th.

Rev. Paul Bousfield, pastor of the Winterset United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
