December 1955Herman R. Pope, who spent most of his life in Monroe township died Dec. 22 at his home in El Monte, Calif., according to word received here this week. He was 67 years of age.
Mr. Pope was the only son of J.H. and Ella Meyerhoff Pope. He was born July 18, 1888, near Des Moines. At an early age he moved with his parents to Monroe township, where he lived until his marriage to Dessie Jordan on Feb. 8, 1910. They established their home on a nearby farm until 1944, when he was stricken with leukemia and forced to leave the farm. They moved to California at that time, and had been living in Rosemead and El Monte.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Doris Burgan of El Monte and Mrs. Ruth Adcock of Bellflower, Calif.; four grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Pope of Lorimor and Mrs. Carrie Williams of Winterset.
