Truro Pays Final Tribute to Victims of Train Crash

Delbert Eugene Carlson was a son of Albert and Marine Carlson and was born near Afton, June 3, 1932. His death occurred at the age of 17 years on March 29, 1950. He moved with his parents to a farm southwest of Truro in 1940. He was a senior in the Truro high school, where he participated in athletics and school activities. He had united with the Truro Methodist church in 1946, and was president of the M. Y. F. there.

In addition to his parents, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Richard Fenimore of Des Moines, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Ruckman and Mrs. P. A. Carlson all of Afton.

Three ministers presided at the joint funeral services which were held at the Truro high school gymnasium. They were the Rev. V. R. Willey, pastor of the Truro Congregational Christian church, the Rev. W. J. Fowler of the Truro Methodist church, and the Rev. Lester Pearson of Madison Chapel Church of Christ.

Burial for Eugene was held in the Ebenezer cemetery.

Rites Sat. For Crash Victims

Three Die After Car Rams Train; Fourth Still Critical; Joint Services Scheduled At Truro

Joint funeral services will be conducted at Truro Saturday afternoon for a Clarke county youth and a Truro boy and girl who died from injuries received Sunday night when their car struck a freight train.

Carolyn Kale, 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Kale, died early Monday morning.

Donald Spellerberg, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Spellerberg of Madison township, and Gene Carlson, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Carlson of near Truro, died Wednesday.

Only one of the four who still survives is Alice Umsted, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Umsted of near Truro. Her condition today was described as very critical.

Bodies of the three victims will lie in state in the Truro high school auditorium Saturday morning.
