Walter Willis Porter, 80, of Norwalk died of a heart ailment Thursday at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Kale Funeral Home in Truro, with burial at Peru Cemetery in Peru.

Mr. Porter was born in Des Moines and had lived in Norwalk since 1955. He had worked for Solar Aircraft and was a retired maintenance repairman at Mercy Medical Center. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, a member of Linn Grove United Methodist Church and American Legion and a ham radio operator.

A sister, Lois Tuttle of St. Charles, survives.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.

WALTER WILLIS PORTER

Walter Willis Porter, son of Walter William and Ola Armenta Simmons Porter, was born Feb. 19 1920, in Des Moines and died March 16, 2000, at Mercy Hospital Medical Clinic in Des Moines. He was 80.

He graduated from East High School in Des Moines.

Mr. Porter served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at the Eglin Air Force Base during World War II from 1941 to 1945. After he was discharged from the Air Force he worked for Solar Aircraft for 12 years.

He married Ruby Elaine Hansen in September 1953, in Nashua. They were married for 30 years. They moved from Des Moines to Norwalk in 1955.

Mr. Porter worked as a maintenance repairman for Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines before he retired in 1975.

He was a ham radio operator and a member of the Linn Grove United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post No. 562 in Cumming.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Harold, a stillborn sister, Evelyn Porter and a sister, Ardis Allen.

Mr. Porter is survived by his sister, Lois Tuttle and her husband, Merril Tuttle, of St. Charles; a sister-in-law, Regina Porter of Des Moines; nieces and nephews, Chuck and Helen Hoeven of Slater, Fred and Jan Porter of Clear Lake, Phil and Kathy Schooler of Lacona; Al and Sharon Allen of Carlisle, Wayne Allen of the state of Nevada, Marvin and Carol Boggs of Martensdale, Vanna Tuttle of Story City, Greg and Becky Abbott of Indianola, Steve and Sherry Opsal of Grinnell, Randy and Debbie Mann of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were March 20, 2000, at Kale Funeral Home in Truro, the Rev. Jane Shepherd officiating. Doris Johnson, organist, played Great Is Thy Faithfulness and How Great Thou Art.

Casket bearers were Herb Snyder, Albert Lee Allen, Phil Schooler, Chuck Hoeven, Marvin Boggs and Dwayne Walker. Military graveside services were by Winterset VFW Post 8142. Interment was in the Peru Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Linn Grove United Methodist Church.
