Winterset Madisonian, Winterset, Iowa
October 5, 1921

Albert J. McGlothlen was born in Illinois Nov. 20, 1859. He moved with his parents to Indiana, and while yet a boy they moved to Carlisle, Iowa, where he grew to young manhood. He then came to Madison county, where he was married to Miss Caroline Kirkland on June 30, 1880. They made their home on a farm near Macksburg. To them were born four children: a son, Charles Henry, of Loveland, Colo.; three daughters: Mrs. Steve Busch, of Rockwell City; Etta, at home, and Liva, who died nine years ago at the age of 25 years.

Mr. McGlothlen's home has been near Macksburg all these years until about 18 months ago, when his health having failed so that he could not well attend to the farm work, he sold the farm and moved to Wintrset, hoping to regain his health; but he gradually grew worse until on Sept. 24, 1921, he passed away at the age of 61 years, 10 months and 4 days.

When in middle life he made a profession of his faith in Christ and united with the Wesley Chapel M. E. church, were he remained a member until his death. He was an upright, industrious citizen, a faithful companion, and dutiful father. He leaves to mourn his death the companion, three children, one grandchild, two brothers, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church in Winterset on Sept. 27th, by Rev. Jackson Giddens, assisted by Rev. E. B. Chancellor of the Church of Christ and the body was laid to rest in the Macksburg cemetery.
