MORTUARY

Anna E., oldest daughter of Mary and Captain Henry Moreland, was born at Des Moines, December 21, 1860. Her father and mother were both from England and were among the early settlers of Ft. Des Moines. Her father was a captain in the Civil war and after the war the family moved to Dallas county, living most of the time near Perry, where Anna's young girlhood was spent. When still a girl, she lived for a while with her grandmother in Des Moines, and when sixteen years of age she came to Winterset with Miss Winter, to help her with the millinery store. She later took up dressmaking and for many years managed a dressmaking shop in Winterset.

She was married to Dr. James Sloan in 1893. They had no children of their own but they took Frank Allen into their home when he was a young boy and Mrs. Rutledge mothered him as her own until he was grown. Until the time of her death she loved him as a son. Dr. Sloan died in 1916, and she was married to Osmond Rutledge March 6, 1919.

She united with the Presbyterian church of Winterset many years ago. She had been for many years a member of the W. R. C. and also in later years had been a member of the Kill Kare Klub.

She seemed in her usual health and after a day of happiness at the state fair, she passed away suddenly on August 28, 1929, at the age of 69 years. She leaves beside her husband, and her boy, Frank Allen, of Kenniwick, Washington; two brothers, Ted Moreland, of near Camp Dodge, and Lester Moreland, of Oregon, and two sisters, Mrs. S. C. Covey, of Dallas Center, and Miss Mary Moreland of Des Moines.
