GRACE STEWART BISSELL

Grace Stewart Bissell, daughter of Robert and Kate Stewart, was born February 8, 1876 and departed February 14, 1948, in the hospital at Denver, Colorado.

She was born in the stone house on the Phillips farm, and grew up to womanhood in this community, attending the rural school, now known as Early Chapel school.

Her parents were pioneers in this community, coming here in 1858. They shared in the joys and sorrows of pioneer life with the Philips family, Speer family and other early settlers. They settled on the present Stewart farm which was their home as long as they lived.

Grace as we all loved to call her, was always busy doing kind deeds for others, both in the home and community in which she lived, making many friends.

Her attitude was one of a forward direction, never backward. Grace was a community and church leader. She united with the Early Chapel Church October 1894, under the pastorate of Edgar Price.

She was married October 2, 1907 to E. E. Bissell, this helping make a better home for Elmer and his three children. They lived a few years in Des Moines; then they came to Early Chapel community. The whole family shared greatly in the work of the church until the children left to make their own homes.

Mrs. Bissell is survived by her husband Elmer E. Bissell, who now is making his home with his son, Milford at Denver, Colorado. The following other survivors, Wm. R. Stewart, Winterset, Bert Stewart, Earlham, (brothers); Mrs. Ray S. Thompson, Standstone, Minnesota, Milford G. Bissell, Denver, Colorado, Clare M. Bissell, Eugene, Oregon, (stepbhildren)
