Death of A. R. Clark

A. R. Clark, who has been residing with his son, Charles Clark, at their home near Pitzer, died suddenly from heart trouble, about noon, Tuesday, October 1st.

Mr. Clark, who was 71 years of age, had been assisting his son with the farm work, and had started to the house, north of Pitzer, for the noon meal. The horses continued to the house, and when the family found that Mr. Clark was not with them they went to the road, where they found that he had died.

Mr. Clark was born in Indiana, but came to the eastern part of Adair county when he was a young man. He lived in that county for thirty years, and twenty years ago moved to Rosewell, South Dakota, where he had since resided. During the latter part of August, Mr. Clark came to this county, and since then had been making his home with his son. His wife died ten years ago. He is survived by three sons, Charles, of this county, and Horace and Earl, of Roswell, South Dakota, and a daughter, Mrs. Mae Bell, of Baudette, Minnesota. He also leaves a brother, Will Clark, of Waterloo.

The Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the United Presbyterian church of Winterset, and the Rev. Sidney Morris, former pastor of the Webster church, are conducting the funeral services at the Webster Methodist church at two o'clock this afternoon. Burial will be in the Roberts cemetery.

Abraham Riley Clark

Abraham Riley Clark, son of Charles and Martha Clark, was born in Clay county, Indiana, June 5, 1858. He came to Adair county, Iowa, with his parents, when 18 years of age, in a covered wagon.

He was united in marriage to Jane Bunce January 1, 1884. She preceded him in death nine years ago. To this union were born five children: Charles Herbert of Earlham; Mae of Bendette, Minnesota; Earl W. and Forrest E. of Roswell, South Dakoa, and a daughter who died in infancy.

Mr. Clark moved to Roswell, South Dakota, with his wife and two sons, Earl and Forrest, in 1909, and had resided there ever since until about a month ago, when he came to visit with his son, Charles, at Pitzer. While there, he suddenly passed away October 1, 1929, with an attack of heart trouble at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 25 days.

Soon after moving to South Dakota, he joined the M. E. church of Roswell. He was affiliated with the Masonic lodge of Dexter and the Odd Fellows lodge of Roswell. He was a kind and indulgent father and was always ready to assist a brother, sister or friend when duty called. He leaves to mourn his departure besides his three sons and one daughter, a brother, William Clark of Waterloo. There are five grandchildren besides numerous friends and other relatives.
