DAISY CURTS BENSON

Daisy Curts Benson was the daughter of George W. and Almeda Curts. She was one of eight children, and, with her twin sister, Dora, was born on December 27, 1874, at the family home near Kennedy Station in Dallas County, Iowa.

The family moved in the spring of 1885 to the Bear Creek neighborhood in Dallas County, north of Earlham. Daisy, who was known as Dolly, and her sister attended the Bear Creek school.

On December 19, 1897, she was united in marriage with Edgar Benson, and they made their home on the Benson farm northeast of Earlham. To them were born two daughters, Inez Pearl and Ethel Mae.

The home they established was well-ordered and industrious, and one whose doors were open with hospitality. It was a deeply religious home where the church, the Bible and Christian living were the very warp and woof of its life.

For several years they regularly attended and supported the Hickory Grove United Brethren Church located north of their farm. They often entertained the pastors, who lived near the Panther Creek church, and visited their other three charges in turn, traveling by horse and buggy.

On February 12, 1925, she and her husband joined the Earlham Friends church, and were faithful in attendance and in service as long as their health permitted. Daisy was for many years, and until her death, an overseer in the church.

Edgar Benson died in August, 1956. The years since have been spent quietly in her old home with her son-in-law and daughter, Ivan and Inez Russell.

Death claimed her after several weeks of illness on Sunday night, November 29, 1959, at the age of 84 years and 11 months. She was the last of her brothers and sisters to be called. She leaves her two daughters, Inez Russell (Mrs. Ivan Russell), and Ethel Hoskins (Mrs. Russell Hoskins), both of the Earlham community. She leaves, also, a grandson, Wilbur Russell, of Earlham and two grandchildren.
