James Breeding, 93, of Winterset died Dec. 12, 2002, of an aneurysm.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Jim Breeding was born Aug. 27, 1909, in Madison County to Charles and Albia (Cox) Breeding. He was a 1927 graduate of Winterset High School. On Oct. 25, 1931, he married Wessie Ekleberry in Milan, Mo. Jim had been an electrician and hardware merchant for Breedings Hardware in Winterset before retiring. A lifetime resident of Winterset (except for war-time service in the Napa, Calif., shipyard from 1943 - 1945), he had been a member of the Winterset Lions Club, Winterset High School Alumni Association, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Lakeview Country Club, Madison County Historical Society, Knights of Pythias and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. He also served on the Winterset Zoning Board of Adjustment and had been a bailiff for the Madison County Court.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Farris Breeding; and three sisters, Veva Young, Evelyn Wight and Vanna Olsen.

He is survived by his wife, Wessie, of Winterset; a son, Jim Breeding of Ojai, Calif; a daughter Kay Darnall of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
