Charlie E. Rippey, son of Joseph and Marinda Rippey was born in Winterset, Madison county, Iowa, January 30, 1865, and departed this life at Aztec, New Mexico, Tuesday evening, March 12, 1929. He was united in marriage to Miss May Kirkland, January 2, 1888. To this union were born five children: Virgil L. of Los Angeles, California, Delbert K. who died at the age of one year, Velda Wood of Los Angeles, California, Leta E. Lanier of Aztec, New Mexico, and one baby girl, dying at birth. In the spring of 1903, they left their Iowa home at Winterset and went to Jara, Colorado, and later to Aztec, New Mexico. On April 27th, 1919, his wife preceded him in death.
On August 3, 1924 he was married to Miss Lydia Hulbert of Palisades, Colorado. To this union one son, Donald, was born, who is two years old. Several kinds of business occupied his time and he gave his best to them all. We need not go into details of his life in our midst, because we all knew, loved and honored him and shall remember him through our days. He was the father of a splendid family, who have the sympathy of this community at this hour of bereavement.
Surviving him are his wife and little son, Donald; two daughters, Mrs. A. D. Wood of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. J. G. Lanier of Aztec, New Mexico; one son, Virgil of Los Angeles, California, and one brother, George Rippey of Peru; several grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held from the funeral home in Aztec, Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Goff of the Baptist church, of which he was a member, officiating. Burial was made in the Aztec cemetery.
