NORMAN CARL SCAR

Norman C. Scar, 81 died at Westbridge Care and Rehab Center in Winterset on Friday January 6, 2006. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday January 9, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter with burial in Penn Center Cemetery in rural Earlham.

Norman was a life-long farmer in the Earlham area. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church for most of his life. Norman was very active with the Walther League and Wheatridge church groups. Norman served on many church committees, taught Bible classes and served as an elder of the church.

Norman is survived by his wife, Katharine Scar of Earlham; daughter, Doris Olson and husband Art of Des Moines; son, Dwayne Scar and wife Diana of Earlham; daughter, Elaine Harper and husband Hal of Des Moines; son, Daryl Scar and wife Lori of Earlham; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday January 8, 2006 at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham where the family with greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to his church.

Norman C. Scar was born the son of Frederich and Ethel (Newman) Scar on April 30, 1924 at the family home in rural Madison County, Iowa and died January 6, 2006 at the Westbridge Care Center in Winterset, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 7 days.

Norman graduated from Earlham High School in 1942 and worked on the farm with his parents for several years. Norman was very active with the Walther League from Atlantic to Des Moines and met Katharine Buse at one of those meetings. Norman and Katharine were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines on March 12, 1952. This union was blessed with 4 children, Doris, Dwayne, Elaine and Daryl.

Norman and Katharine farmed southwest of Earlham from 1952 until 2006. Norman loved to tinker, invent, fix or repair everything and anything. One of his favorite pastimes was to visit with people. He loved auctions and came home with many treasures. Norman loved to fish in the ponds on his farm. He also loved to take pictures and had them in his pocket to show. He was an avid gardener. He had huge strawberry patches and raised vegetables to share with everyone. Norman was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church being baptized May 18, 1924 and confirmed July 16, 1939. Norman was active with his church serving as an elder, bible study teacher, and committee member.

Norman is survived by his wife Katharine Scar of Earlham; daughter Doris Olson and husband Art of Des Moines; son Dwayne Scar and wife Diana of Earlham; daughter Elaine Harper and husband Hal of Des Moines; son Daryl Scar and wife Lori of Earlham; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leonard Scar and sister Alice Bruns.

Interment in Penn Center cemetery.
