Joseph Wray Bruns of Adair, a native of Madison County, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 1980, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic at the age of 52. Mr. Bruns farmed near Winterset until 1961 when he moved to Adair.

Born on March 21, 1927, in Winterset, he was the son of Joseph Eugene and Jennie Marie Allgeyer Bruns. A 1945 graduate of Winterset High School, Mr. Bruns served in the U.S. Navy until 1946 when he returned to Winterset to farm. He was united in marriage to Alberta Lewis in April of 1952 in Winterset. His wife survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Bruns operated the Adair Motor Lodge since 1961. He was a member of the American Legion and St. John's Catholic Church in Adair.

Also surviving are his mother, Jennie Bruns, of Winterset; two sons, Mike of Waterloo and Tim of Atlantic,a daughter, Michelle at home; a grandson; two brothers, Paul of Toledo, Iowa, and Robert of Germany; and five sisters, Mary Williams and Peggy English, both of California, Jen Melroy of Winterset, Betty Campbell of Kansas and Dorothy Kennedy of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Jack.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at St. John's Catholic Church in Adair with burial at Chase-McDonald Cemetery near Winterset.
