Fred J. Goodwin

Fred James Goodwin, 84, of Winterset died Aug. 13, 2000, of pneumonia at Winterset Care Center North in Winterset.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Sandy Smith officiating. Visitation was held Tues. at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset where the family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Military graveside services were held by American Legion Post No. 184 and V.F.W. Post No. 8142, at Winterset Cemetery.

Fred Goodwin was born June 25, 1916, in Stanberry, Mo. to George and Fannie May (Jellnek) Goodwin. He married Helen L. Roberts on Feb. 4, 1947, in Troy, Kan. He was a retired machine operator for Peterson Construction Co. and Madison County. He was in the Army Air Corps during World War 11. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 184, V.F.W. Post No. 8142, National P-38 Asso.,D.A.V., Air Force Asso., 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a sister and a grandson.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Vincent Goodwin (wife Becky) of Lakeville, Minn.; two stepsons, Chet Chickering (wife Susan) of Winterset, and Gary Chickering (wife Louise) of Indianola; a stepdaughter, Sherry Lathrum husband Edward) of Winterset; a brother, Lawson Goodwin of Parkersburg; three sisters, Evelyn Driskill of Afton, Fern Leeper of Winterset and Deleath Raymond (husband Harold) of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
