P. H. Nevin

P. H. Nevin, son of John and Mary Malone Nevin, was born in Chicago, February 14, 1857. When he was two years old the family moved to Bristol, Illinois. He spent his boyhood and young manhood in Bristol and when he was 25 years old he went to Minot, South Dakota, and took a homestead. After two years he went back to Illinois and was married to Kate Milander. To this union were born four children. One died in infancy and one daughter, Maude, died in 1914. The others are Ed Nevin, living near Mitchellville, and Mrs. Josie Hinds, of Des Moines.

They lived for five years in Dakota and went from there to Wiota, Iowa. Mrs. Nevin died there in 1900 and four years later he was married to Sarah Mills, at her home in Fairfield. They soon after moved to Douglas township in Madison county, where they have since made their home.

He was christened in the Catholic church and remained in that faith. He was always a man of great physical strength and of a great strength of character; always a strong, true friend. He had not been well for the past four years and was taken seriously worse three weeks ago and passed away on June 20th, 1928, aged 71 years, 4 months and 6 days.

He leaves beside his wife and children, one sister, Margaret Driscoll of Aurora, Illinois; and one grandson, Gerald Hines.

Rev. Luke Plunkett conducted the funeral service in St. Joseph's church Friday morning, June 22, and the interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
