FERNE MAGDALENE ANDERSON

Ferne Magdalene Anderson, daughter of Charles and Laura Schlarb Henry, was born August 20, 1895 in Madison County.

Her youth was spent in Earlham attending the community school. She is a graduate of the Earlham Academy. During those early years, Ferne became a member of the Church of Christ and was active in this congregation till they moved from the community.

On June 14, 1922 Ferne was united in marriage to Ed Anderson in Winterset. The Lord blessed this union with one son, Paul. This family has spent their entire life in the Earlham and Stuart communities.

When moving to Stuart, Ferne assisted her husband in the Motel and Service Station businesses. She was good with figures, thus handled the financial affairs. She was an avid reader of a vast variety of materials. She met people easlily. Even up until the day of her death she kept a daily diary of current events.

Ferne passed away suddenly at her home in the Stuart Retirement Apartments, early Saturday, April 14, 1979.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Ed, in 1972 and her parents.

Surviving are her son, Paul of Mt. Pleasant, grandson Paul Jr. and twin great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, all of Marshalltown. A brother, H. C. Henry, of Des Moines, also survives.

Services were conducted at the McKee Funeral Home in Earlham. Burial was in the Earlham Cemetery.

Bernard Zylstra, minister of the Church of Christ, conducted the service.
