Death of Mrs. Harvey Smith

Rachel Boardman was born in Dearborn county, Ind., Nov. 29th, 1825. She was married to James Bellis in 1847. To this union were born four daughters, three of whom remain to mourn her loss. One, Mrs. George Ergenbright, preceeded her to the glory land some three years ago.

Mrs. Bellis and her husband moved to Missouri in the year 1856, where Mr. Bellis died. Mrs. Bellis moved to Madison county, Ia., where she was married to Harvey Smith in April 1858. She was converted in early life and joined the Methodist church of which she has lived a faithful member ever since. During the past three years she has been a continual sufferer, being confined to her bed for about a year. On Wednesday, March 11th, at 3:00 p.m. the final message came and she quietly and peacefully passed away, as one whose days work is done and who expects to awake in the morning of an eternal day.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. C. E. Trueblood.

Death of Mrs. Rachel Smith

Rachel Boardman was born in Dearborn county, Indiana, Nov. 29, 1825. She was married to James Bellis, in 1848. She was the mother of four daughters. One of them, Emma, was married to George Ergenbright, and many of our readers will remember the sad affliction which befell the family a few years ago when living east of the city which resulted in the death of the mother and several children from that disease, typhoid fever.

Alice R. married Mahlon Brown and with her husband still lives in Scott township, Catharine Armstrong, another daughter, resides in Topeka, Kansas, and Sarah, the widow of Enos Brown, resides in Des Moines.

Mrs. Bellis, with her husband, removed to Missouri in 1856 where he died, after which the widow removed to this county and was again married to Harvey Smith in April, 1858. She was a devoted Christian woman from early childhood and a member of the Methodist church. She became seriously afflicted some three years ago and during the past year has been a great sufferer. She died peacefully at her home in Winterset, March 11th, at three o’clock p.m.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church last Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. C. E. Trueblood.
