Carl Edward Jobst - 1916 - 2005

Carl Edward Jobst, the oldest of three children of Adolph Wilhelm John Jobst and Ida Norine Elizabeth Scar was born in Madison County near Earlham on November 25, 1916 in Earlham, Iowa. He died on October 11, 2005 at Winterset Memorial Hospital.

While attending Earlham High School he earned the nickname of "Joker" for his practical jokes and also participated in the Drake Relays in 1935. After graduation he helped his Dad in farming. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in December, 1941 and was stationed in Alaska and helped drive the Japanese out of Attu and Kiska. He was a flight engineer and worked on aircraft just out of the factory. He was assigned to test all planes for cold weather flying and tested the first jet plane to leave the U S border.

Carl married Ruth Katherine Mueller on December 12, 1948 and they purchased a farm 5 miles southwest of Earlham. They had 5 children together. They retired and moved to Dexter in 1987. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and had served in various positions. Carl enjoyed aviation and made and flew model airplanes. But he really enjoyed farming and felt it was a privilege and a pleasure to farm the land.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ruth. Carl is survived by son Paul of Greenfield; daughter Nancy Simonson and husband Philip of Morristown, Minnesota; son Roy and wife Mary of Earlham; son Lyle of Ankeny; son Ray and wife Candy of Macungie, Pennsylvania; sister IIah Mueller of Adair; sister Ruth Wedemeyer of Adair and eleven grandchildren. Interment in the Penn Center Cemetery rural Earlham, Iowa.

Dexter

Carl E. Jobst, 88, died at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset October 11, 2005. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday October 15, 2005 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter with burial in the Penn Center Cemetery in rural Earlham.

Carl graduated from Earlham High School in 1935 and farmed with his dad in rural Earlham prior to marrying Ruth Mueller in 1948. Carl and Ruth farmed southwest of Earlham for over 40 years. Carl enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and helped drive the Japanese out of Alaska in 1943. Carl was a flight engineer and helped test all new planes for cold weather flying and tested the first jet plain to leave the US Border. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ruth.

Carl is survived by son, Paul of Greenfield; daughter, Nancy Simonson of Morristown, MN; son, Roy of Earlham; son, Lyle of Ankeny; son, Ray of Macungie, PA; sisters, Ilah Mueller and Ruth Wedemeyer, both of Adair; and eleven grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday October 14, 2005 at the Kuhn funeral Home in Dexter where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to his church.
