Sharon “Shari” Luray Clarkson Royer, of Peoria, Illinois, died at her home on June 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 77 years old.
Sharon was born on December 27, 1947, in Winterset, Iowa, to Robert Clarkson and Amy Soli Clarkson.
Sharon is survived by her two daughters, Tamara Royer and Leah Royer, and four grandsons, Dane Rabe, Nathan Rabe, Tobin Smith, and Gabriel Smith. The first of four daughters, Sharon is also survived by her three younger sisters: Kathy Tompson of Omaha, Nebraska, Debbie Clarkson of Forsyth, Missouri, and Nancy (and Thomas) Baker or Winterset, Iowa. Sharon also leaves behind two nephews and two nieces, as well as a host of great nieces and nephews.
Her family was her treasure and she cherished opportunities to have everyone together, especially around a campfire or board game.
Sharon was a journalist by trade, having worked in the newspaper business for most of her professional life. Notably, Sharon ran the Labor Paper, for many years, combining her love of journalism with her support for labor unions.
She was also passionate about her love of genealogy, spending countless hours researching and documenting her family ancestry. She was a voracious reader, explorer of history, lover of nature and gardening, avid traveler, and exceedingly charitable. Her interests, talents, and loveable qualities are far too numerous to list here.
Most of all, she was an unforgettably wonderful daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, friend, and colleague. She will be sorely missed until we are with her again.
