Peggy Ann Wells, 95, of Dexter passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at her home. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Thursday, October 9th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 10th at the Dexter Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Dexter Public Library and/or the Dexter Museum and/or the Dexter Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be left at johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Peggy was born April 29, 1930 in Dexter, the daughter of William Richard and Georgia Omega (Denham) Blohm. She attended Dexter Public School where she graduated in 1947. After graduation, she and her girlfriends adventured to Washington D.C where they worked for the U.S. Federal Government. A year later she returned to Dexter where she worked at the Dexter Hospital.
Peggy and her high school sweetheart, Robert Charles Wells, were married on March 12 ,1950. Together, they farmed and were blessed with six children. They retired to Dexter in 1999 where they lived the rest of their lives. Peggy and Robert were just a month shy of celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary when he passed away in February 2000.
In her retirement years, Peggy, enjoyed working and volunteering for the Dexter Public Library and in many other capacities in the community. She was a lifelong member of the Dexter Presbyterian Church where she was baptized and confirmed. As an adult she was active in the Presbyterian Women’s Group. Peggy was honored as Dexter’s Citizen of the Year in 2014.
One of Peggy’s favorite social pastimes was gathering with her friends in the “Cardettes” Bridge Club, where she was a member for over 50 years. She loved playing card games, doing puzzles, word jumble, cheering on ISU Sports, and most recently, Caitlin Clark. Above all, Peggy’s greatest happiness came from time spent hosting gatherings with family and friends.
Survivors include her children: Mike (Nancy) Wells of Panora, Mary (Roy) Jobst of Earlham, Susan (Brian) Weinheimer of Creston, Brenda (Andy) Squillante of Southlake Texas, and John (Kim) Wells of Earlham. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Luke (Emily) Wells, Seth Wells, Megan (Joel) Pettit, Joe (Cassie) Wells, Jennifer (Travis) Granzow, Rob (Jenn) Griffith, Heather Jobst, Niki (Ryan) Smith, Jodi (Matt) Winfrey, Lindsay (Jim) Ide, Lauren (Ryan) Knobbe, Anthony (Courtney) Squillante, Andrea (Mike) Ivey, Ashley (Jeff) Whiton, and Andrea Haus, along with 24 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Connie Wells Weber.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Margaret Wells; brother, Dr. William D Blohm; and sister, Thelma J. Vazquez.
Transcriber’s note: Robert and Peggy Wells lived in Penn Township, Madison County, Iowa where they raised their family. Retiring from farming, they moved to Dexter.
