John Nelson Jackson passed away peacefully on May 18th at his home in Gainesville, FL, surrounded by family. For many years, John quietly battled cancers & illnesses surprising family and nurses with his resilience and determination.
His personality and character showed through till the end, as he mustered smiles and winks and occasional one-liners with family visitors and caretakers. He passed away a few days shy of his 64th wedding anniversary to his lovely wife, Myrna (Waller) Jackson. Myrna took care of John with love and attention and along with family and care from Hospice nurses and the VA, John remained in his home until his passing.
He was born in Winterset, Iowa on May 6th, 1938. Although many of their family members remained in the Midwest, John & Myrna ventured to Florida where they have lived for over 60 years.
John is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Gillain, Kelly Booth (Andy), Jennifer Hellkamp (Eric), seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Growing up on a farm and through various hands-on jobs, John developed a vast skillset. There was seemingly nothing he didn’t know something about when it came to machinery and mechanics. He drove a truck for much of his career and then later in life, turned his passions to woodworking and antiquing. Many of his original pieces can be found in homes and businesses in and around North Florida.
John was creative, witty, and determined. He will be missed and his memory will last forever through the stories and marks he left on us all. Say hello to Ollie for us! Over and out, Abe.
